Summer Advanced Wet Sanding Training
3-Day Intensive | May 22-24 | Carol Stream, IL
Hosted at the Gloss University Studio in Carol Stream, Illinois, this three-day advanced wet sanding class is limited to just four students for a focused, hands-on learning experience.
Designed for experienced detailers, this training takes a deep dive into the multi-stage wet sanding processes used to achieve true show-car results. Over three full days, students will work as a small group on a recently restored vehicle, learning how to safely level, refine, and correct premium paint systems at a professional level.
Class Schedule & Arrival
Class Time:
Day 1: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
Day 2: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM Extended as needed
Day 3: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
Students are asked to arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of each day to get situated and ready to begin on time.
What You’ll Be Working On
The subject vehicle for this class is a 25-year-old, recently restored car finished in premium high-solid paint with multiple coats of clear coat. This platform allows students to experience how advanced sanding techniques interact with modern paint systems while working toward a high-level, show-quality finish.
Throughout the weekend, students will follow the vehicle through a multi-stage sanding and refinement process, gaining real-world experience that directly translates to restoration, correction, and high-end detailing work.
Training Breakdown
Day 1 – Theory, Tools & First-Stage Sanding
The class begins with a strong technical foundation before moving into hands-on work.
Morning Session:
Sandpaper types, grit selection, and sanding blocks
Hard blocks vs. foam blocks and proper use cases
Overview and history of modern paint systems
Live Q&A to prepare for hands-on sanding
Afternoon Session:
Begin the first stage of sanding as a group
Learn proper technique, pressure control, and surface evaluation
Day 2 – Advanced Sanding & Process Execution
Sanding work continues throughout the day with a focus on:
Multi-stage sanding progression
Dry sanding vs. wet sanding
Reading scratch patterns and surface texture
Understanding how different grits behave in real-world conditions
Due to the labor-intensive nature of advanced wet sanding, we anticipate Day 2 may extend slightly beyond the scheduled end time. This ensures each stage of the process is completed correctly without rushing.
Following the conclusion of Day 2, students will head to a group dinner, providing an opportunity to relax, discuss the day’s work, and continue learning in a more informal setting.
Day 3 – Paint Correction & Refinement
The final day transitions into correcting and refining the sanded surface.
Topics include:
Rotary polishing fundamentals and benefits
Wool vs. foam pads and their roles in correction
Technique, pressure, and cycle time management
The importance of proper lighting during paint correction
Students will see how proper sanding sets the foundation for efficient, high-level paint correction and final refinement.
Important Class Disclaimer
This is not a beginner-level class.
Students must have prior experience with machine polishing and feel confident operating polishing equipment.
No sanding experience is required; however, a solid understanding of paint correction fundamentals is expected.
Why This Training Is Different
Limited to 4 students for maximum hands-on time
Real vehicle, premium paint system, real results
Advanced techniques rarely taught in group settings
Focused on precision, control, and professional execution
